Degree Requirement

There are two ways to satisfy the CGA program degree requirement.

Find out more about each option below:

1. Enter the program with a degree

Students need a bachelor’s degree, or higher, from:

  • A recognized Canadian university
  • A comparable foreign university, or
  • Another authorized degree-granting institution (subject to approval by CGA)

Depending on the relevance of your degree program, you may be granted transfer credits for certain CGA courses so you won’t have to repeat what you’ve already studied. This ensures you enter the CGA program at the most appropriate level. Programs majoring in accounting earn the most transfer credits but degrees in other fields may also qualify for some advanced standing.

Recognition of international degrees

The CGA afiliate to which you apply will confirm if your degree can be recognized.General guidance on recognition of institutions and comparability of degrees for selected countries is available through this site.

Option: earn an MBA alongside your studies:

Degree holders have the opportunity to pursue a master’s degree in business administration alongside their PACE studies, through the Laurentian University Online MBA program.

2. Complete a bachelor’s degree alongside your CGA studies

Most CGA affiliates allow students to enroll in CGA courses without a bachelor’s degree, but may require a recognized degree before enrolment in final PACE level requirements.

Through a partnership with Laurentian University, students who enter the CGA program without a bachelor’s degree can study part-time, online, to earn an Honours Bachelor of Commerce alongside their CGA studies.

Some other institutions also offer degree efficiencies by allowing requirements completed through CGA to contribute credit towards a degree.
