Overview

CGAs meet the requirements to earn their designation through:

  • Education – prescribed accounting, finance and business management courses
  • Recognized degree (equivalent to at least a Canadian bachelor’s)
  • Comprehensive examinations
  • Approved professional experience

The CGA program is competency-based. It ensures that every newly qualified CGA is able to serve fully the needs of clients and employers, and to protect the public interest. These competencies detail the knowledge, skills and professional values required of accountants and senior financial managers – in real working environments and to specific levels of proficiency.

This section contains detailed information about CGA’s foundation and advanced level education requirements, and professional (Professional Applications and Competence Evaluations - PACE) courses and examination requirements.

CGAs’ degree and professional experience requirements are also explained.

Note: there may be minor regional variations, and you should confirm all program information with the CGA Association office where you intend to become certified.
